Aside from food and physical protection, what do children REALLY need to develop to their maximum potential?
Whilst touch might not be the first thing that springs to mind when we are asked to consider what is critically important for a child's development, it is well documented in cases where babies have been deprived of physical contact that both their cognitive and physical development is very significantly delayed.
Everything we initially learn from our parents/guardians is delivered through touch and physical guidance. Without it, we would struggle to develop self perception, or learn how to feed ourselves, to walk, stay safe and generally, to function in society.
Literally, we need touch to learn how to live well.
